Maxie speaks about being a young, independent artist.

Have you seen the “Sad Girls” fan-made music video?

Fun fact: Maxie was born very prematurely at 27 weeks on July 27, 2004. Her full name means “great little warrior”.

Maxie is from Philadelphia, PA. She has played at venues which include The Bryn Mawr Twilight Concert Series, South West Wayne Porchfest, World Café Live, 118 North, The Kelly Center, Philadelphia Area Songwriters Alliance and Philadelphia Folksong Society.

Maxie is the founder of Maxie’s Hot Chocolate House which is a multi-act event benefiting World Café Live Education. She has used her songs to support the missions of DMAX Foundation, Brandon’s Voice, Women’s Resource Center, The Peace Center and Settlement Music School.

Maxie has six released singles. “Rise” was written at age 14. “Sad Girls” takes you back to high school. “The Reckoning” was written the day she came home from a Philly march for racial justice when George Floyd was killed. “Be Alright” was a key 2022 reminder to herself. “Ten Years” is sad and beautiful. “Someone You’d Love” is her newest release.

“Once middle school hit, I basically found myself alone. I didn’t know how to tell people how they made me feel for fear of making things worse. So I played my piano and wrote songs. Out came my stories and truths, ones I probably couldn’t otherwise fully see or admit to. In the flow of playing around with melodies, I could be honest in a way that sounded and felt amazing.

I’ve always pictured a packed venue looking out at me each time I sing, even when it’s an empty room.”
